High Hopes Sue Lilley

Grace has a secret. Pregnant after a drunken one-night stand with best friend Sam, she gave up her baby for adoption without telling him. A penniless student, she convinced herself it was for the best. And condemned herself to twenty years of guilt.

When her daughter traces her, Grace longs to meet her, to explain that what she did was an act of love. But how can she do that without confessing to Sam and putting his family in jeopardy?

How could their lifelong friendship survive such a betrayal? Yet Grace has no choice

Received this book from netgally and the publisher in exchange for an honest review this has in no way affected my opinion.

Wow. Just finished this all in just two sittings! What a book. I have never read any by this author before, but have to now declare myself a fan. The book cover grabbed my attention straight away. It sums up the whole book perfectly. The two main characters are caught up so deeply in each other’s tangled affairs, that we, as readers, find ourselves doing so too. The drama! The drama! The story is very different to most stories on Kindle. There is a real sense of urgency and the story deals with real, heartbreaking issues that real people find themselves facing on a daily basis. A great little read. But not easy in some parts due to the fact that we get so caught up in the story we start believing that it is real. The descriptions are accurate and are most likely what people in these situations feel, think and say. I won’t say any more because I don’t want to spoil the ending for anyone!
